Appeals: 7-Year Jail Term to 4 Defendants Accused of Burning Tires in Buri

Bahrain Mirror: The High Appeals Court upheld a ruling against 4 appellants convicted of assembling, burning tires in Buri and pouring oil on street. The ruling sentenced the suspects to 7 years in prison and sentenced a seventh suspect to 3 years in prison with 500 BD fine.

The authorities claim that the "appellants and 3 other unknowns assembled on public street in Buri on February 7, 2015 at about 1:55 PM, aiming at disrupting public peace, putting people's lives and security to danger and attacking policemen. The defendants had Molotov and number of cars' tires along with petrol and oil bottles. They poured oil on the two lanes of the road, put tires and burnt them."

The authorities claim that they reached the suspects through investigations.

The Public Prosecution accused the suspects of taking part, along with other unknowns, on February 7, 2015, in an assembly of more than 5 persons. It also accused them of burning tires along with other unknowns for a terrorist aim as well as acquiring Molotov.

The prosecution accused the first suspect of manufacturing and acquiring explosive device, a gas cylinder, aiming at using it to put people's lives and public and private money to danger.

A first-instance court sentenced 6 suspects to 7 years in prison and a 7th suspect to 3 years with a 500 BD fine and ordered the confiscation of seized items. The court ended the criminal case against another suspect because he died in Singapore on 15/2/2016. The 4 appellants appealed the verdict, however, the court upheld the sentence issued against them.
