Bahrain Mirror: The Al-Ayam local newspaper reported from what it described as a well-informed source that the government intends to change the postal sector in the ministry of transportation and telecommunications into a profit-making association, adding that the provided postal services will be based on the principle of full profitability instead of symbolic fees.

The source pointed out that the institution will appoint an Executive Director for it, so that he puts the economic strategy to increase financial revenues from this important economic sector, noting that the government would submit a bill to Parliament during the coming session to consider converting the postal sector into a profitable government association.

For his part, a member in the House of Representatives stressed that the government intends to turn the postal sector into a profitable government association. He said: We have received certain information that the government intends to change the postal sector in the ministry of transportation and communications to a profitable government body. We, in our turn, will support this orientation.

He added: We aim at diversifying the sources of governmental revenues, but under the condition of not compromising the services provided to citizens or adding new costs on the burdens of citizens or even harming the employees and people working in the postal sector in terms of cutting salaries or gains, indicating that the minister of transportation and communications will be the minister representing the postal body in front of the House of Representatives.
