Businessman Sentenced to Month in Prison, Fined 500 Dinars for “Insulting” Bahraini Minister of Commerce

Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini minor criminal court sentenced Bahraini businessman Samih Rajab to one month in prison, also fining him 500 Bahraini dinars, and setting a fine at one thousand BD to stop the execution of the sentence, over charges of insulting and slandering the Minister of Industry and Commerce Zayed Al-Zayani.

Reports say that a General Committee member of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry posted on his Twitter account statements including insults and defamation against the Minister of Industry and Commerce, noting that a complaint was filed and thus Rajab was referred to court on charges of insulting and slandering the minister. The court sentenced him to one month in prison and fined him 500 dinars.

It is worth noting that a number of businessmen in the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce as well as members of its Board of Directors have filed complaints against Rajab, accusing him of libel and slander.
